Ishmael Blog #7

Question#1 : How, according to Ishmael, can we save the world? And according to you?

"Then here is the program: The story of Genesis must be reversed. First, Cain must stop murdering Abel. This is essential if your to survive. The Leavers are the endangered species most critical to the world- not because they're humans but because they alone can show the destroyers of the world that there is no one right way to live. And then, of course, you must spit out the fruit of that forbidden tree. You must absolutely and forever relinquish the idea you know who should live and who should die on this planet." (Ishmael, 248) This quote means according to Ishmael is the way we can save the world is to go back to being leavers. However people are not going to want to go back to how they how leavers were which were hunter gatherers and doing everything the hard way. Since were advancing the technology people are getting comfortable doing everything the easy way. Also by reducing the population of humans because were rapidly increasing.

Question #2: How should people live? According to Ishmael? You?

People should live as leavers so we can reduce the harm were doing to the world. For example consume only the food that is necessary use more environmentally friendly products. Also to be clean and not just leave trash anywhere because there just going to end up in the ocean and its going to end up hurting the sea animals.

QQC #4

Quote: "Does being civilized make you incapable of giving the creatures around you a little space in which to live?" (Quinn, 246)

Question: What's incapable?

Comment: Incapable is when u have a lot of power but your too lazy to use it. Being civilized are the takers so i agree with the question because it is true us the takers do take over animals habitat they force them to move out so they build new houses or other tings. They only think about themselves and how there going be successful in life and don't think about the harm there doing the world.

QQC #3

Quote: "The disaster occurred when ten thousand years ago, the people from your culture said, 'were as wise as the gods and can rule the world as well as they.'
When they took into their own hands the power of life and death over the world, their doom was assured." (Quinn, 166)

Question: Do people in the world really cause destruction?

Comment: In the book Ishmael it has been talking bout how humans have been ruining the world which are called the takers. I agree with this quote because it is true ever since man stepped foot in this planet all we have done is take over lands and territories from other species and creating pollution. Were the ones destroying the world because we want everything for ourselves and we want the best for but with that came consequences and now the future has to deal with all of them. For example pollution in the sea is going to end up killing sea animals or even extinct them. or the destruction of rain forest to create housing or new factories we need those plants to clean oxygen.

Save the World Interview

Karen Garcia
Save the World Interview
5/18/09

My homework over the weekend was to interview someone about saving the world. I decided to interview the teacher-aid in my church class. He's a senior in high school and he seemed he to know that the world was being harmed but he doesn't do anything about it. When I was interviewing him he he would always take a while to respond back. I felt that he didn't care what was happening like "oh yea were destroying the world, oh well."

K: Hey __ I'm suppose to interview someone about saving the world can I interview you?
S: Uh yea sure (chuckles)

K: Do you think humans are destroying the world?
S: ummm, yes because were creating new technical advances and its not healthy for the resources were taking

K:What do mean by taking resources?
S: I mean abusing our natural resources like gasoline when we know its bad for the environment and we still use it.

K: /Why do you think these resources are important?
S: Well we need gasoline for transportation, but it causes pollution and pollution causes harm to the ozone in the atmosphere and the ozone is important because it protects us from the sun's rays and we can die

K: What other problems do you see on the planet?
S: ummm... well the destruction of the rain forest

K: Why do you think the rain forest is important?
S: well were tearing down plants which creates oxygen and bad people are building factories which causes more pollution.

K: How do you think we can prevent destruction of the rain forest and pollution?
S: I don't really know... well I don't think we can prevent this

K: Why?
S: because with the earth population increasing and our need for more resources we will need to continue to cut down more rain forest and pick up more natural resources to create the basic necessity that we need

K: So do you think our planet need to be saves
S: From what?

K: From anything
S: Like aliens?

K: No from humans
S: Yes I think our planet needs to be saved, but nobody is doing anything about because none does anything about it until we run out of everything we have, then people are going to want to save the planet.

K: Okay then thanks ___
S: Your welcome

QQC #2

Quote: "But finally", the creature said , turning quite pink with pride as he came to the climax of his story, "but then jellyfish appeared!"

Question: Why did the jellyfish end with "then jelly fish appeared" if the world doesn't evolve around only them?

Comment: This quote made me realize how humans think everything revolves around them but it doesn't. Ishmael just wanted to show that life didn't stop just when humans came into the picture. when the narrator was telling his story how the world came to be he stop with when humans appeared like the jellyfish did in his story on how the world came to be.

Ishmael QQC#1

Karen Garcia-Guapo

Quote: After a moment he nodded, as if in acknowledgment of my difficulty. " I am the teacher." (Quinn, 10)

Question: Why did they choose the gorilla to be the teacher?

Comment: I don't really know why they choose to the gorilla in the book, but hopefully throwout the book my question will be answered. So far in the book is about a 50 year old men who wanted to save the world when he was younger but didn't have anyone to help him. Now that hes older he found a teacher who was looking g for students to help him save the world but he was disappointed that now when he had given up he found what he was looking for and at his surprise the teacher came out to be a gorilla.
